BSCAA National Newsletter – November 2020
President’s report
Welcome to the BSCAA November 2020 newsletter
With National Safety month October at an end, BSCAA congratulates members for their efforts in promoting continual improvement in safety and health at your workplace.
Workplaces have had to quickly adapt their practices and procedures to reduce the WHS risks arising from COVID-19 and to manage the psychological effects of the pandemic on workers.
BSCAA held an Insurance & Mental Health and Wellbeing Webinar on 27 October, in partnership with AustralianSuper. Our presenters were from TAL Life Insurance and Superfriend. If you were unable to attend, you will find further details on the Webinar in the Newsletter. Thank you to everyone who was able to participate, and we hope that you enjoyed the session.
11 November is Remembrance Day. Each year on this day, Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
By observing one minute’s silence, we pay tribute to the men and women who have served and are still serving in our defence forces and remember those who have died or suffered in conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations.
Although Remembrance Day is different this year, the Australian War Memorial’s website includes different ways to help us commemorate wherever we are – at home, school or work.

In Qld, the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has won a third term in office, declaring victory for her party and entering the history books as a Labour legend after being rewarded by voters for her handling of the coronavirus pandemic. This will be Labor’s first four-year fixed term in power.
Ms Palaszczuk will be the longest-serving Australian female head of government by mid-2021 and the longest-serving Labour premier in the state since World War II by mid-2024.
She has made history by becoming the first woman to win three elections in Australian history. It was also the first time in the state’s history that two women battled for the premiership.
As always, stay safe and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas. We would love to hear from you.
