SPEAKERS:

“Dipper” Robert DiPierdomenico

Robert DiPierdomenico is a retired Australian rules footballer who represented Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL) from the 1970s to the 1990s. Popularly known by his nickname “Dipper”, DiPierdomenico is one of the most successful Italian Australians to play Australian football, and his contribution to the game was recognized by selection in the VFL/AFL Italian Team of the Century.

Beginning his career with the Hawthorn Football Club in 1975, DiPierdomenico started slowly, playing 99 reserve-grade games as he flitted between first team and reserve-grade football. He kick-started his career in 1978, culminating in a best-on-ground performance in the 1978 VFL Grand Final. DiPierdomenico went on to play 240 games and kick 130 goals with the Hawks, retiring in 1991, and participating in five day and four night premierships during one of the most successful eras that a VFL/AFL club has ever achieved.

Rodney Eade

Eade made his VFL debut for Hawthorn at just 18 years old. He played 229 games for the side from 1976-1987 before moving to the Brisbane Bears in 1988. He played 30 games before retiring in 1990. Eade then moved into coaching as the reserves coach for Brisbane. He later coached the North Melbourne Kangaroos reserves to a premiership in 1995. He was then appointed coach of the Sydney Swans from 1996 to 2002. Eade spent 2003 and 2004 as a media commentator and writer for the Western Bulldogs before being appointed coach in 2005. In 2011 he was appointed to the position of Football and Coaching Strategist for Collingwood Magpies. From 2014 to 2017 Eade was the senior coach for the Gold Coast Suns before stepping down.

Sarah Rowe

Sarah Rowe is a former member of the Ireland Senior women’s soccer team, player with mayo ladies GAA team in Ireland and now Collingwood’s AFLW Rookie. Sarah has played with Mayo ladies GAA football team since she 10 years of age and played with the Irish women’s soccer team up until the age of 19 competing in numerous European championships. She is now transitioning from soccer and Gaelic football to AFLW.

Kate McCarthy

Recruited from Yeronga South in Brisbane by the Lions, Kate was a key player in the Lions inaugural team where she played every game in the first season, was nominated for ‘Goal of the Year’ and won All Australian selection. Kate’s elite pace comes from a background of Athletics and Touch Rugby where she has competed at the Pan Pacific Games and represented Australia at Under 20 Level. Kate is also the only AFL/W player who has played professionally with a pacemaker, after she started experiencing issues at the age of 10.

Mitchell Hannan

Mitchell Hannan is an AFL footballer who wears number 29 for the Western Bulldogs. Recruited in the 2016 draft, Hannan made his AFL debut in round one of the 2017 season, and plays as both a forward and in midfielder.
